Some people have expressed a concern over the belief that Nancy Pelosi could become President if the election is delayed beyond January 20th, 2021. According to USA Today, “Nancy Pelosi would not become president because she is up for reelection and would be out of office too.”
The next in line is president pro tempore, Republican Senator Chuck Grassley. However, there are 35 senators up for reelection and 22 of them are Republicans. A delayed election could result in a Democrat majority who would choose a new president pro tempore.
But the governors can fill the vacant seats with temporary appointments until an election is held.
