Uber jumps on the BLM bandwagon :
The company Uber is preparing to move forward with their Uber Eats delivery application to allow U.S. and Canadian customers to receive free delivery from black-owned restaurants for the rest of the year. This new feature is said to be a response from “what the customers are asking for” and comes in the middle of nation-wide protests over the death of George Floyd. Customers who turn on the Uber Eats app in heavy populated U.S. and Canadian cities will have a large placard pop up saying: “Support Black-owned Restaurants.” All delivery fees will be terminated for those businesses through the end of the year. Uber’s Chief Executive Dara Khosrowshahi also promised to diversify the company internally. In 2019, roughly 45% of Uber’s U.S. employees were White, 33% Asian, 9% Black and 8% Hispanic, according to a company report. … Will you be more likely to utilize Uber Eats due to this gesture? So if I order from a Black Owned Restaurant, the delivery is Free, but if I order from a White Owned Business, or Chinese, or Asian, the delivery is NOT Free? … Isn’t that itself a form of racism and discrimination? Or am I misunderstanding something?
