An open letter was written and sent on November 7th, 2020 to Governor Tom Wolf, Secretary of Commonwealth Kathy Boockvar and the Attorney General Josh Shapiro. The open letter was written by multiple Pennsylvania Congressmen including Glenn Thompson, Mike Kelly, Dan Meuser, John Joyce, Scott Perry and Lloyd Smucker.

The letter contained the concerns of Pennsylvania’s Republican Congressional Delegation when it comes to the Commonwealth’s management of the General Election to Governor Tom Wolf, Attorney General Josh Shapiro, and Secretary of the Commonwealth Kathy Boockvar. The 6 congress men wrote that the Commonwealth’s electoral system has been challenged by issues including late directions given to the counties just before the election night, the Attorney General running for reelection while refereeing with a vested individual interest. There’s also the issue of volunteer poll watchers being refused access to the counting facilities so that they could oversee the counting processes. Trey Trainor, who is the Chair of the Federal Election Commission, also raised his concerns over the poll watchers unable to have “meaningful access” in monitoring ballot counting in states such as Pennsylvania.

The same Congressmen also focused on Pennsylvania’s failure to prove that it is following the temporary order by United States Supreme Court Justice Alito to separate all the ballots that came in after 8 pm on election day.

Congressmen Thompson and colleagues further stressed that Pennsylvania’s Attorney General, Josh Shapiro’s recent vocalized opinions proved that he has not be able to stay impartial given an obvious conflict of interest.

The six Congressmen that signed the open letter are very concerned by the actions of the Pennsylvania administration and they all believe that America’s democracy is at stake, along with public trust in their government and its officials.

Congressman Kelly posted on his own website : “In our representative republic, it is not the media who declares the winner of elections. Right now, the Trump Campaign is engaged in several court cases to determine the integrity of the vote in multiple states. None of those states have officially certified their vote counts, and investigations into voting irregularities are ongoing. The winner of the election will be determined by the law, not media projections.

Eight of Pennsylania’s 18 House representatives are Republican and there is one Republican senator. Only six of the eight Republican representatives signed this letter, and it was not signed by Republican Senator Patrick Toomey. Cowardice and opportunism isn’t limited to Democrats.
